SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - John Imbriale will step aside as the full-time announcer at New York Racing Association tracks in 2023 and instead be part of a three-person announcer team NYRA will utilize that will include Chris Griffin and Frank Mirahmadi. Imbriale, who will continue as the full-time announcer for the rest of 2022, will, starting next year, remain the announcer at the Belmont Park spring and fall meets. Griffin, currently the regular track announcer at Parx Racing, will call the races at Aqueduct, and Mirahmadi, the track announcer at Santa Anita and Monmouth Park, will call Saratoga. In an interview with Daily Racing Form, Imbriale, 67, cited a desire to cut back on his race-calling duties. He worked in concert with NYRA management, including Tony Allevato, NYRA’s Chief Revenue Officer and president of NYRA Bets, to find a schedule that accommodates his desire to still call races part time. “In order to work it out we had to work around their schedules,” Imbriale said, referring to Griffin and Mirahmadi. “Frank is obviously Santa Anita, his availability wouldn’t have been at Belmont, but it would have been here. Tony asked ‘Would you think about doing Belmont spring and fall’ and I thought about it for not really a long time and I said it’s one way for me to cut back and still keep my hand in it. And maybe one day I’ll call a Triple Crown winner.” :: Visit the Saratoga Handicapping Store for Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Picks, Betting Strategies and more. Imbriale held many roles at NYRA in track publicity, television production, and was the back-up announcer to Tom Durkin and then the winter announcer at Aqueduct. In 2020, he became the full-time announcer at NYRA, replacing Larry Collmus. “I’ve only done the full-time thing for three years, but I’m 40-plus for being here,” Imbriale said. “I just thought it was time to do some type of cutback.” Griffin, 41, has been the racecaller at Parx since 2021. He began calling races in 2015 on the Northern California fair circuit. He has called at Gulfstream Park West, Sam Houston Race Park, Monmouth, Meadowlands and has served as Imbriale’s back-up announcer during the winter at Aqueduct. “I’m fired up and excited about the opportunity to call the Big A,” Griffin said. :: Get Saratoga Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Thereafter, “I will follow Parx management’s lead on how they want to coordinate time frames and so on,” Griffin said. Mirahmadi, 54, has been track announcer at Santa Anita since 2018 and at Monmouth Park since 2015. He has filled in, at times, during all three of NYRAs meets including earlier this meet at Saratoga. “I felt the history and tradition of Saratoga Race Course the moment I entered the gates for the first time 25 years ago,” Mirahmadi said in a release. “It is a magical place, and I am beyond grateful to follow in the footsteps of John Imbriale next summer at the Spa.” Mirahmadi will relinquish his duties at Monmouth Park beginning in 2023 but will retain his position at Santa Anita.
