Nostalgic, winner of a third-level allowance race here Aug. 15, will be considered for the Grade 2, $250,000 Beldame Stakes at Aqueduct on Oct. 8, trainer Bill Mott said Friday. Nostalgic, who won the Grade 3 Gazelle at Aqueduct in 2022, was making just her second start of the year when she won the 1 1/8-mile allowance over Gerrymander. Her previous race was a neck defeat to Sixtythreecaliber in a similar spot here on July 19. Mott said Nostalgic had a lengthy break between her 3- and 4-year-old campaigns because she was “worn out. She needed to charge her batteries. “We freshened her, she came back looking good, carrying more weight,” Mott added. “After her first race, she tucked up and got pretty fit.” Grannys Connection retired Grannys Connection, winner of the Union Avenue Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 11, has been retired from racing, trainer Tom Morley told the New York Racing Association publicity department. Morley said that Grannys Connection “had some minor skeletal changes on X-ray after her last race.” Union Avenue, a 4-year-old New York-bred daughter of Connect owned by Orpen Horses, Jack Hardin Towell, Jr. and Alan Griffin, retired with a record of 5-2-0 from seven starts. She earned $268,050. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
