Short-priced favorites figure to dominate both stakes races for 2-year-olds at Northlands Park Sunday. Tiny Giant will take a lot of support in the one-mile Canadian Juvenile, and it is hard to get past Shifty Time in the one-mile Freedom of City for 2-year-old fillies. Both races are worth $50,000. First up is the Canadian Juvenile, which drew eight horses and goes as the ninth race. It will serve as the rubber match between Tiny Giant and Cool Kahuna. Tiny Giant, trained by Joan Petrowski, should have the edge. He showed a lot of promise in his debut when he broke poorly and still won a maiden special weight race going 3 1/2 furlongs by over five lengths. He lived up to his potential when he won the one-mile Alberta Premier's Futurity by seven lengths over Cool Kahuna on Sept. 19. Cool Kahuna, trained by Cody Anderson, edged Tiny Giant by three-quarters of a length in the $96,000 Birdcatcher Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 30. Both Tiny Giant and Cool Kahuna have good speed. Shifty Time is a standout in the Freedom of City, which will go as the 10th race. Trained by Greg Tracy, Shifty Time has won her last two starts by a total of 15 lengths. Shifty Time finished second going 3 1/2 furlongs in a $27,500 maiden claiming race Aug. 3. She improved dramatically when she went around two turns in her second start, winning the $58,000 Filly Sales Stakes by nine lengths. She also romped as the odd-on favorite in the Sturgeon River on Sept. 19.
