Nobody Listens held gamely on the lead to win the $125,000 Big Daddy Stakes by a neck over Night Time on Saturday night at Turfway. Nobody Listens ($9.88) was away alertly under Joseph Ramos and led the field of nine by a length through a sharp opening quarter of 22.38 seconds on the Tapeta, and continued to widen his advantage to the half in 44.60. He still led by two lengths in midstretch, but Night Time, who had been tracking well throughout, rallied in earnest in the final stages. Nobody Listens grimly held him off at the wire, finishing the six furlongs in 1:09.14. Night Time was second by three-quarters of a length over Candy Overload, who had defeated him by less than a length when he was third in last month’s Forego Stakes. Candy Overload closed from last at the quarter pole to nip Anaconda by a nose for that third spot. After Anaconda came Bad Beat Brian, favored Here Mi Song – who had been second in the Forego – Gun It, Pole Setter, and Detroit City. Nobody Listens, a 5-year-old Indiana-bred gelding trained by Tim Eggleston – has now won 10 of 20 career starts, with six runner-up efforts and one third. He has spent the majority of his career racing in Indiana, where he won the 2022 Brickyard Stakes sprinting on dirt, and has placed in two other stakes. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
