There are more stakes winners in Sunday’s five time trials for the $248,000 Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park than there are berths available in the finals. The runners with the 10 fastest times in the 400-yard trials, regardless of finishing position, will advance to the May 30 final. There are 12 stakes winners entered in the trials on Sunday, the sixth through 10th races, ranging from Trump My Record, the champion 2-year-old gelding of 2019, to Relentless Gun, the winner of the $55,000 Easy Jet Stakes at Remington Park last June. :: To stay up to date, follow us on: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter The Heritage Place Derby typically draws a strong group in the time trials and this year is no exception. Overall, there are 43 horses entered in the trials. First post time for the 11-race program is 7 p.m. Eastern, or 6 p.m. Central. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com. The first two divisions of the trials, the sixth and seventh races, drew outstanding fields. In the sixth race, there are four stakes winners in a field of nine, notably Trump My Record, unraced since winning the $904,631 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park in November. Trump My Record faces Mr Dillard, who won the $252,876 Black Gold 350 Futurity at Will Rogers Downs last September; Uptowne Babe, the 9-1 winner of the $963,100 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park last June; and Uncle Eds Idea who beat Mr Dillard by a neck in the $252,900 Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs in November. The seventh race is not much easier. Relentless Gun, the 5-2 morning-line favorite Sunday, was seventh in the $130,000 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby at 24-1 on April 18 and faces an equally tough assignment in the seventh race. His rivals include Victorious Cartel, who won the $99,061 Mile High Futurity at Arapahoe Park last August; Perrys Secret, the winner of the $332,600 West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park in May 2019; and Justafamilytradition, unraced since a win in the $135,000 Governor’s Stakes at Indiana Downs last October. While there are no stakes winners in the eighth race, the ninth race is led by Kiss Me Anywhere, the winner of the $171,196 Jim Bader Futurity for Iowa-breds at Prairie Meadows last October. The 10th and final trial includes Expedyte, who won the $308,335 Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs last July, and Relentless Cowboy, who won the $179,860 Iowa Double Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows last August. Relentless Cowboy was fifth by a length in an allowance race at 350 yards on April 25 in his first start of the year. Relentless Cowboy broke from the rail in that race. He should benefit from the recent race experience.
