Peppers Pride has not yet been officially retired, but all signs were pointing in that direction as of Tuesday. "We're still not positive, or 100 percent, but we're leaning that way," said Joel Marr, who trains Peppers Pride for her breeder, Joe Allen. Peppers Pride is undefeated in 19 starts and owns the longest win streak in modern North American history. She had been expected to retire following the $125,000 New Mexico Racing Commission Handicap at Sunland Park on Dec. 14, but she won in such a convincing fashion that she forced her connections to rethink plans. As of Tuesday, however, a broodmare career seemed to be at hand. Marr said Allen is continuing to look at stallion prospects for Peppers Pride, although no stud deal has been made. Peppers Pride is a 6-year-old New Mexico-bred by the Fappiano stallion Desert God.
