Shisospicy and her rider, Irad Ortiz Jr., were the stars here Wednesday. Shisospicy proved a popular victor of the afternoon’s co-featured fifth race in her turf debut, which was the first of three winners on the card for the meet’s leading jockey. Stakes-placed twice on dirt coming into the race, Shisospicy rallied under confident handling by Ortiz to a 2 3/4-length victory in the entry-level allowance dash going five furlongs on grass. She earned a career-best 86 Beyer Speed Figure for the effort. “She tried hard in her two stakes races and she’s got some turf on the dam’s side of her pedigree, which is why we worked her over the grass at Palm Meadows and then tried her in this spot,” said Jose D’Angelo, who trains Shisospicy for Morplay Racing LLC. “Now we have a horse that can go both ways. That’s very special.” :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports available now. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
