Necessary Evil, who finished sixth as the second choice in the Grade 1 Darley Debutante on Saturday at Del Mar, came out of the race with a fracture to her left front ankle and will be sidelined for the rest of the year, David Greathouse, whose Glencrest Farm is a co-owner of the 2-year-old filly, announced Wednesday. Necessary Evil was making the fourth start of her career in the Debutante. Before that, she defeated males in the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship, and was second in the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar to Mi Sueno, who came back to win the Debutante. "The prognosis for a complete recovery is excellent," Greathouse said in a press release. "We are not sure when it happened, but she was bumped right after the start, and that certainly may have contributed." Greathouse said Necessary Evil will recuperate in Ocala, Fla., and return to training in three to four months. Necessary Evil, a daughter of Harlan's Holiday, is trained by Doug O'Neill.
