Championship and MVP odds and favorites … NBA futures odds update: Celtics, Thunder favored to meet in NBA Finals Boston cruised to the 2023-24 title, going 16-3 in the postseason en route to the franchise’s 18th NBA championship. Jayson Tatum and Co., opened atop the 2024-25 NBA title odds board and haven’t relinquished the position since, sitting at a top sportsbook-consensus +209 as of Monday. The Celtics’ best-value odds of +235 could be found at DraftKings Sportsbook. But while Boston hasn’t budged, the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder (44-10) has closed fast with +211 consensus championship odds as of Monday.  OKC’s best-value odds of +225 at BetMGM Sportsbook were even higher than Boston’s. The surprise of the top five is the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers, who are 5.5 games ahead of the Celtics (39-16) coming out of the All-Star break while matching the Thunder win-for-win at 44-10. Still, the Cavs are a distant third on NBA championship oddsboards at a consensus +738. That certainly makes them a solid value at +900 at FanDuel Sportsbook, even though they could’ve been had at +5000 or better in the preseason. Rounding out the top five are the two conference third-place teams: The East’s New York Knicks (36-18) at a consensus +1275 and West’s Denver Nuggets (36-19) at a consensus +1400. Two teams to keep an eye on are the West’s fifth-place Los Angeles Lakers (32-20, consensus +1600) and second-place Memphis Grizzlies (36-18, +2900). The Lakers have crashed the top five after the stunning trade for Luka Doncic earlier this month and are the biggest NBA title ticket liability at BetMGM, the sportsbook reported Monday. NBA futures odds update: Gilgeous-Alexander perched atop MVP boards League scoring leader Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (32.5 points per game) of the Thunder finished second in last season’s MVP voting behind the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic. However those finishes are favored to flip, according to the current consensus 2024-25 NBA MVP odds at the top online sportsbooks. SGA, as of Monday, led the way with consensus -500 MVP odds while Jokic, who has won three of the past four MVP awards, was a distant second at +320. The Nuggets’ big man currently leads the league with 25 triple-doubles — 15 more than second-place LeBron James. Gilgeous-Alexander’s best odds could be found at FanDuel (-440) as of Monday while Jokic’s best-value repeat price of +350 could be found at DraftKings. In any case, it’s evolved into a clear two-man race with the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo (consensus +12500), Tutum (+30000), the San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama (+30000) and the Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns (+50000) barely registering as the only other players on BetMGM’s MVP board as of Monday. BetMGM reported that SGA had attracted the highest percentage (28.5) of the sportsbook’s 24-25 NBA MVP handle while Jokic appeared on the highest percentage (16.2) of tickets.  Tatum, the Celtics’ leading scorer at 27 points per game, was BetMGM’s biggest NBA MVP liability as of Monday.
