BALTIMORE – The Beyer Speed Figure for Multiplier’s victory in the Illinois Derby has been adjusted from an 88 to a 94. Multiplier is a 30-1 longshot on the morning line for Saturday’s Preakness at Pimlico. The figure for Illinois Derby runner-up Hedge Fund, beaten a head, was also adjusted similarly. Hedge Fund is running in the $100,000 Sir Barton Stakes on the Preakness undercard. :: Like this article? Get access to all premium articles, real-time coverage, special reports, and charts. Randy Moss, part of the team that makes the figures, said the Illinois Derby was the only two-turn race on the card at Hawthorne that day, making it somewhat difficult to make a figure. Moss noted that Hollywood Handsome, fifth in the Illinois Derby, came back to win a first-level allowance race at Churchill Downs last Sunday with an 88 figure. “Based on that, the weight [Multiplier] carried in the race, the trip he got, maybe the figure was higher than originally thought,” Moss said. “It marks some pretty steady improvement for Multiplier and improvement for Hedge Fund, who is running in the Sir Barton. In hindsight, I think it makes a little more sense.” :: DRF Bets $20 Refund – If your horse finishes 2nd to Always Dreaming in the Preakness! Opt-In Now
