Snowfall, Europe’s champion 3-year-old filly of 2021, was euthanized on Tuesday in Ireland as a result of an apparent stall accident, trainer Aidan O’Brien said. The news was reported by the Racing Post on Tuesday. Snowfall won 5 of 14 starts and earned $1,210,242 in a career highlighted by a brilliant campaign in 2021. Owned by the Coolmore partnership, Snowfall won three consecutive Group 1 races in England and Ireland by a combined 28 1/2 lengths last spring and summer – the English Oaks at Epsom Downs in June, the Irish Oaks at the Curragh in July, and the Yorkshire Oaks at York Racecourse in England in August. Snowfall won the English Oaks by a record 16 lengths under jockey Frankie Dettori. By top Japanese stallion Deep Impact, Snowfall, who was bred in Japan, was beaten in her final three starts, including a sixth in the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris on Oct. 3. Snowfall was third in the Group 1 British Champions Filly and Mares Stakes at Ascot on Oct. 16 in what would be her final start. :: Bet the races with confidence on DRF Bets.
