OZONE PARK, N.Y. -- War Like Goddess will attempt to win a third consecutive Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic on Saturday at Aqueduct. After initially planning to train the 7-year-old mare up to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Del Mar on Nov. 2, Mott said Sunday that he plans to run her in the 1 1/2-mile turf race against six males. “They had six and quite a bit of speed in there,” Mott said. “I thought, since we enter so far out, let’s make sure she’s doing well and feeling good.” Mott said War Like Goddess has only run three times this year, most recently finishing second behind Idea Generation in the Grade 2 Flower Bowl at Saratoga. “I think she’ll be retired after the Breeders’ Cup,” Mott said. [Owner George Krikorian] was all in if we decided to run.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. Mott has won the Hirsch six times, including twice with Channel Maker. If she runs and wins, War Like Goddess would be the first three-time winner of the race. The Hirsch, run at 1 1/2 miles, includes Far Bridge, front-running winner of the Grade 1 Sword Dancer last out; Get Smokin’, front-running winner of the Grade 2 United Nations at Monmouth; and Silver Knott, front-running winner of the Grade 2 Bowling Green at Saratoga. Also entered in the Hirsch were Emmanuel and Daunt. Kay Army to scratch from Woodward Kay Army, who won all 10 of his starts in Chile, will be scratched from Saturday’s Grade 2, $400,000 Woodward Stakes on Saturday, Mott said Monday afternoon, confirming a report on the Thoroughbred Daily News website. On Monday, Kay Army worked five furlongs out of the starting gate in 1:02.75 over the Oklahoma training track. “I wasn’t happy with him afterwards, so we’re not running,” Mott said. Mott wouldn’t say if the horse was injured. Kay Army, owned by Ignacio Hurtado, had gone 10 for 10 in Chile, nine of those wins coming on turf. Mott said Sunday that Hurtado indicted he wanted to run the horse on the dirt. “I think their thoughts are they’d like to move in the direction of the dirt,” Mott said. The scratch of Kay Army leaves the Woodward with a four-horse field. Skippylongstocking, winner of the Charles Town Classic in his most recent start, will most likely be favored in the race. He drew the rail and will be ridden by Manny Franco. Trainer Todd Pletcher entered both Crupi and Tapit Trice. Crupi won the Grade 2 Suburban going 1 1/4 miles at Saratoga before finishing second to Next in the Grade 2 Brooklyn and Arthur’s Ride in the Grade 1 Whitney. Tapit Trice came off a long layoff to win the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup in July before finishing a disappointing fourth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Masqueparade, beaten 22 1/4 lengths by Next in the Birdstone Stakes last out, rounds out the field. The Woodward is carded a race 4 on the a 12-race program. *** Mott also entered Scotland and Baby Yoda in Saturday’s Grade 3, $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes, which is a “Win and You’re In” race for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Scotland is coming off a three-length win in a seven-furlong allowance at Saratoga on July 26. Baby Yoda won the Grade 2 True North at Saratoga in June, but most recently finished sixth in the Grade 1 Forego on Aug. 24. The Vosburgh field includes Comedy Town, Dean Delivers, Lord Miles, Mufasa and Seven’s Eleven. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
