SHAKOPEE, Minn. - A change in surfaces proved of no consequence to Mizzcan'tbewrong, who won with some authority when taking the $50,000 Minnesota HBPA Mile at Canterbury Park on Saturday. Overnight rain forced Canterbury Park management to transfer the mile from the soggy turf course to a drying-out track that was listed good throughout the day. As a result, four of the field's 12 entrants were scratched. Mizzcan'tbewrong, who figured to be the wagering favorite on either surface, was sent postward as the even-money choice. The early pace was set by Fabulous Babe, who carved out relatively fast fractions racing into the far turn, but Mizzcan'tbewrong never let that rival out of her sights and readily joined that foe as the pair raced into upper stretch. Under firm encouragement from jockey Paul Nolan, Mizzcan'tbewrong asserted herself to prevail by 4 3/4 lengths while stopping the timer in 1:38.55. Fabulous Babe held well to be second, another length clear of Quiet Queen, who finished third. Richie Scherer trains Mizzcan'tbewrong for the Last Call Racing Partnership after haltering the 4-year-old filly for those connections from a claiming event at Arlington last fall. This was the second consecutive stakes victory for the daughter of Mizzen Mast, who has now amassed career earnings of just over $215,000.
