Berrios kept Mi Hermano Ramon toward the inside for most of the race at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Turning into the stretch, Berrios moved Mi Hermano Ramon off the inside for a clear path and quickly began to close ground on the leaders. Mi Hermano Ramon caught stretch leader Astronomer in the final sixteenth. Mi Hermano Ramon ($24.80) finished a half-length in front of a fast-closing Redistricting, the 3-2 favorite. Redistricting, who rallied from last of 12 under jockey Flavien Prat, finished a neck in front of 12-1 Astronomer, who held third. “He was too far back,” Prat said. Mi Hermano Ramon was timed in 1:41.07 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 99. “He was very comfortable,” Berrios said. “He had a good finish. When he went to the front, he started to look around.” Easter finished fourth, followed by Seal Team, Zio Jo, St Anthony, Fast Buck, Alendares, Cabo Spirit, Sumter, and Masteroffoxhounds. In the handicap conditions of the race, Mi Hermano Ramon and Redistricting carried 119 pounds, four less than topweight Almendares and three less than Astronomer. Mi Hermano Ramon, a 4-year-old gelding by Creative Cause, has won 4 of 9 starts and earned $321,480. In 2023, he won the Singletary Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Santa Anita in May and had one more start, finishing third in the Cinema Stakes for 3-year-olds a month later. Mi Hermano Ramon did not race again until this August, when he finished fifth of seven in a tough allowance race on turf at Del Mar. In the Lure Stakes, Mi Hermano Ramnon closed from fifth of nine to finish a neck behind Sumter. “He finished big in the Lure,” Glatt said. “I thought with a clean trip, he would have won.” Mi Hermano Ramon races for Red Baron’s Barn and Rancho Temescal. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
