Papi Rob Hanover filly could be the real deal. (6) MAKES SENSE has won two straight after a good second to start her career; obvious contender. (4) NAMASTE HANOVER has early speed and has been very consistent this year; using underneath. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: NJ Classic 2YO C&G Trot Consolation - Survivor 7 (1) MR WALNER FASHION had an equipment issue last week and was literally uncontrollable behind the gate. That cost him a chance to race for twice as much money but makes him one of the favorites to take home a cool $50K. (3) CAMERA MAN came up short after missing five weeks of action and could certainly be sharper now. (2) FLIGHTLINE gets some major post relief and should be a nice fit in here. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Meadowlands card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 3: NJ Classic 2YO Filly Trot Consolation In a non-descript field where no result would be surprising, (3) MISS BELMAR makes just her second career start for a barn that can certainly improve one in a hurry; taking a shot. (4) JERSEY SLIDE fired out and just missed in a NJSS consolation on August 2. The same tactics could be on display here. (1) AMAZON FASHION was better after four weeks off; maybe she has improved a bit. Race 4: NJ Classic 2YO Filly Pace Final - Pick 6 (9) RECKLESS ABANDON looked like a special filly before a complete clunker in the elimination round. Post nine certainly isn’t ideal but I’m not going to jump off the bandwagon off one dull effort in a race that really didn’t matter. (4) MY SWEET LILY is certainly the main danger to the top pick and likely even the favorite in this field. She won a race last week that she had no business winning. (6) WORKLIFEBALANCE should be firing to the front. She’s proven to be an exotics player almost every week. Race 5: NJ Classic 2YO Filly Trot Final (5) DELANEY HANOVER is now perfect in two starts and she really showed how good she can be by powering away from the field last time; just needs a reasonable trip. (2) KENDRA has yet to miss the board in five career starts. I honestly thought she would be better but she is still eligible to improve. (1) LADY LANDIA won going away but also got very lucky that another driver moved over to give her room. She’s likely going to need to show a bit more aggressiveness or get luck with a trip again. Race 6: NJ Classic 2YO C&G Pace Final - Pick 4 (5) CAPTAIN OPTIMISTIC got an elimination drive last time and simply couldn’t get to #7 as he got the jump on him. The tactics will change this time around and at least some early speed is coming. (2) MANOLETE earned some points in my book last time with a very game mile after being part of a sizzling pace; clearly a big threat. (7) PAPIS PISTOL woke up in a big way last weekend and if he can produce a similar effort he’ll be in the picture. Race 7: NJ Classic 3YO Filly Trot Final (5) BUY A ROUND followed live cover but into slow fractions and McCarthy didn’t even pull the earplugs until steps before the wire. With ample early speed signed on this race sets up nicely, especially if Daley pulls the shoes (check the simulcast crawl). (3) WARRAWEE MICHELLE wasn’t put in play at all and still overcame an impossible trip to win. She’s the deserving favorite but not unbeatable. (1) TANDEM HANOVER finished just a head behind the former at 95-1 with no shoes last week. Was that the key to success? Does Harris pull them again? (8) MISS I LA might be the fifth or sixth best filly in this field, but she’ll be long odds and can fire off the gate with the best of them; exotics player. (4) SOIREE HANOVER just didn’t get her trip last time when first-over into slow fractions. She’s dangerous off live cover. Race 8: NJ Classic 3YO Filly Pace Final - Pick 5 (7) ROCKET DEO has won multiple races in under 1:50 while none of these has ever eclipsed that barrier. Defeat last time is excusable as she faced Grand Circuit foes. (2) ODDS ON STENO comes off a decent return qualifier and she’s capable of firing out and sitting a trip behind the top pick. (1) REIGNING JADE is the type that likes to save ground and pick up some pieces. She should have ample opportunity to do that here. Race 9: NJ Classic 3YO C&G Trot Final (4) TONY ADAMS S has put together a really nice season but has no signature wins due to circumstance and lack of eligibility. I won’t accept any excuses from here as the likely second choice behind odds-on favorite (1) SIG SAUER, who has now won two straight but perhaps wasn’t as good as I’d hoped two starts back in the Beal. (6) BELLA’S MUSCLEHILL is a capable horse given the ideal trip. That’s a lot to hope for unless you get well north of 10-1. Race 10: NJ Classic 3YO C&G Pace Final - Pick 4 (5) WISH YOU WELL was in too tough last time versus older foes and now is back in with his peers. He’ll still need a decent trip but has a good chance to get it in this somewhat abbreviated field. (4) ARBITRAGE HANOVER stormed home in 25 3/5 in his tune-up qualifier. We’ll get a good idea of what he is made of tonight. (8) ROYAL DESIRE just lost to (2) SWINWITHTHECURRENT last time after doing all the work on the engine; both figure here on best. Race 11: NJ Classic 2YO C&G Trot Final (7) PRECISE LANDING is a difficult horse for sure but one with some ability. He had every right to toss in the towel last time but fought back for second. I’ll take the big odds and hope the trip works out. (4) GO AHEAD MAKEMYDAY certainly came to life on this surface in the elimination. If he improves the others are in trouble. (1) HILDAGO is a talented horse but one I still don’t trust as the favorite. Race 12: Winners over $10,000 in last 4 or $50,000 life/NW10000L4 assigned inside (6) NELSONBRITEEAGLE NO hasn’t been out in six weeks but that isn’t a big deal for this barn. I can see her being aired out to get her tight before the Miss Versatility final in a couple of weeks. (4) EUROBOND is outclassed at this point of his life but he’ll likely be put in play while others aim for races down the road with conservative steers. (SPECIAL WAY still has no wins and I’d be shocked if she fires off the gate. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: NJ Classic 3YO Filly Trot Consolation (3) TACTICAL LORI adds Lasix and seems worth a shot in a field without a clear standout. (2) ST PAULI GIRL and (10) SEVENMEARAS are two fillies that I feel could be put in play this week after a few starts from off the pace. Race 14: Non-winners 2 races or $21,500 life/2YO & Maidens draw inside (2) MAXIMUS MEARAS S rolled in his qualifier and who knows how good he is at this point. (8) FAST APPROACH comes in sharp from Grand River and joins the Burke Brigade. If he improves this guy even a little, watch out! Though it is worth noting that Gingras chose off for #4. (6) CABELLO turned in a very good qualified on Aug. 31 and perhaps he’s matured into a better horse now. (7) WHAT A BID HANOVER won at first asking and was a big ticket sale item. It seems unlikely that the filly will fire out versus the boys but you never know.
