FINAL FALL MEET STATS: 195-56-25-30 / $287.20 (-$102.80) BEST BETS: 14-9-1-0 / $32.10 (+$4.10) SPOT PLAYS: 12-3-1-1 / $11.60 (-$12.40) BEST BET: KOVU AS (3rd) SPOT PLAY: MAY BABY (8th) Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace - Pick 5 (7) MASK ON MASK OFF tried to close from the back after chasing somewhat slow fractions last time. If the 4, 5 and 6 leaver as expected here, that should set him up nicely. (2) SGT PAPA DADDY gets in off the AE list due to a scratch and looks like the one to beat coming off a string of wins. That said, you are taking a shorter price here on a horse getting a barn and driver change. (3) MERITO HANOVER is a bit of a wildcard as he lacks form but changes barns; wakeup call? (10) ROCK ON LINE was handicapped the outside and closed well for second in his last appearance in this class (race 1 is typically the cheaper division); needs pace help. (6) THNDRFRMTHETHRON N could be dangerous if the horses to his inside elect to race from off the pace. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Trackmaster 74 (NW L2/2L4 74.5/75) or less - Survivor 7 (2) SHAKE IT TWICE has good form for this group and should be in prime tactical position starting from the inside; no excuses. (5) BULLVILLEKARLA moves from the outside to the middle of the gate and figures to be put in play this time; using. (6) CELCIUS aired it on the engine and faded late most recently. He figures to get a decent piece of this race. (4) BELLATRICKS drops out of claimers and tries the big track. Veteran is making just his fourth start since June and might be ready to pop a decent effort. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Meadowlands card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 3: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races life/TM 73 or less/Maidens draw inside (8) KOVU AS was unlucky drawing the outside but very lucky in terms of competition. Four-year-old should skate to an easy win. (3) GATSBY is not quite as “great” as his namesake but does get class relief here and can give the top choice something to at least think about. (5) COOL TRIXTER has done well in two starts late last year and might enjoy the big track. It is worth noting that he was only one-fifth slower than the top pick last time at Philly and tonight he gets a driver upgrade. Race 4: $10,000-$12,500 Claiming Handicap - $5,022 Pick 8 Carryover (8) ROJAN’S WAY dropped to this claiming level two starts back and was used too hard early in a quick mile. He came back to upset last time and the only issue will be whether he leaves and how hard (7) RACING MONEY pushes him to the inside. The latter has loads of form but few recent wins. (3) GOTAFOOLISHDESIRE plunges to the lowest claiming price of his career and despite just one win in 32 starts last year, you have to respect the possibility of an awakening. (2) GLOBALDOMINATION N has no real form to speak of but he does draw well and figures to be in the front pack without working hard. Race 5: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L2 $3,300) in last 4/TM 77 or less (1) SENNA came back from a long break with a good effort where he pressed very hard first-over and held his ground reasonably well. Any improvement in trip and performance would make him tough. (8) FEAST DAY was a bit one-paced late on the class drop last time. I think he needs to be on the engine and perhaps he’ll get fired out here. (6) INFINITY STONE continues to search for his form. His best can definitely beat this field. (5) GLIDE IN THE WIND was racing well in this condition most recently, but that was for a different barn a month ago. Race 6: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,500) in last 4/TM 80.5 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (4) CASH ROLL impressed me last time by battling through the wire. He should land no worse than a pocket trip here and have every chance to win. (2) SANTAFE’S APPETITE has rolled to a pair of easy victories versus lesser. He’s a dead closer so don’t take too short of a price. (5) CHEVRONS BYPASS N has missed more than a month and came up a bit short last time. I expect he’ll be tighter but still wonder if it will be good enough. Race 7: Non-winners $3,000 in last 4/TM 77.5 (NW L2/2L4 78/78.75) or less (1) SEZANA N hasn’t had any success over this track in a handful of starts but really hasn’t been in a good spot like this one either. Cagey barn could have her ready. (6) PHELGON has proven capable of getting brave on the lead or from the pocket. This field seems to lack early zip and he might fire out. (3) PINK RUBY looks great on paper if you can get away from the five week absence. Race 8: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L2 $8,250) in last 4/TM 83 or less - $3,699 Pick 6 Carryover (2) MAY BABY was a good second best behind a 3-5 chalk winner last time. More class relief here should be just what the doctor ordered. (4) CHIPLOSIVE certainly has some class and hasn’t minded the tougher competition that last two starts. (5) ESA is off a monster performance at Batavia and who knows how that will translate on the big track. It is worth noting that he posted some decent efforts over the track three years ago in his last appearance here. (8) CONRAD DIPOGGIO IT doesn’t look great on paper but he does get a location change and adds a Hall of Fame driver. Race 9: Non-winners $12,500 (NW L2 $13,750) in last 4 (2) PROBERT has come up short as the chalk in consecutive starts, but it ain’t easy closing from mid pack nowadays. Perhaps the inside post will help keep him close and the price will improve slightly. (1) SILENT CROSSING bested the top pick two starts back when last in this class. (4) CAVIART DAVIA has been used hard of late; smoother trip here? (9) AVF CLAIRE adds the “Minister of Speed” tonight. Race 10: Winners over $10,000 in last 4/Starters in a $50,000 Claimer or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (7) PLATINUM AS ships in from Ohio where he was facing the best at Dayton. This looks like a good spot and I’d play him at 3-1 or higher. (5) EUROBOND and (4) ROYALTY BEER have both tried the Open class at Yonkers without success. Still, they have form and have won on the big track previously. Race 11: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L2 $3,300) in last 4 (2) WHOLE LOTTA LOU gets his fourth class drop this week but really can’t be faulted for lack of performance last time when he chased a very slow pace. While he has some early speed in the tank and Miller is more known as a “speed” driver, I almost rather see a patient steer with the amount of early speed on the outside of the gate. (2) TJ’S INDY PACER is a horse I didn’t love last week when the races got cancelled but this spot looks like it sets up better for him to sit and hopefully pick up cover. (8) DANCE IT OUT and (10) DA DELIGHTFUL both finished second last time and each has the early speed to be put in play. Either can win if things go their way. Race 12: Non-winners $5,000 in last 4/TM 80 or less (1) SIDD FINCH has been displaying some late punch from outside posts lately. Driver change to Miller here can only help the cause. (4) LOS BALLYKEELAMIGO and (8) BLUE BAYOU DEO are both dropping in company and picking up much more experienced pilots. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: Non-winners $2,000 (NW L2 $2,200) in last 4 (5) STRAIGHT UP COOL changes barns and plunges in class to the basement condition. You have to think she’ll perk up in a hurry. (2) JAGGER ROCKS was bottled up too long last time and didn’t fire when Luna popped the plugs late; driver change tonight! (4) MCCLINCHIE N dropped to this level and fired out early with a good mile; threat again. Race 14: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $20,000 life/Maidens draw inside (5) MIDNIGHT THUNDER was used to the front, chased honest fractions and wound up second best behind a 1-5 shot on December 30. He should be able to shine in this spot. (6) EL YERNO saved ground in the same race and finished well while never able to get past the top pick; upset chance. (5) GRETZKY THE GREAT can certainly be a player if ready to fire his best off the bench but I expect he’ll need a start and get a conservative steer tonight.
