ARCADIA, Calif. - Maymun, the easy winner of a maiden race at Santa Anita on Saturday, is the latest prospect on a growing list of dynamic 3-year-olds trained by Bob Baffert. Maymun won his debut on Saturday in an exciting manner in a maiden race for 3-year-olds at 6 1/2 furlongs. Maymun took the lead shortly after the start and set quick fractions of 21.72 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 43.91 for the half-mile, leading by at least a length. Maymun extended his advantage to the stretch, winning by 7 1/2 lengths as the 4-5 favorite. Ridden by Juan Hernandez, Maymun was timed in 1:15.59 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 94. “He’s trained like a good horse and ran like a good horse,” Baffert said on Sunday. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports Baffert did not mention any race goals for Maymun, a colt by Frosted who races for Amr Zedan. Maymun was purchased for $900,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.'s 2-year-olds in training  sale last April, one of the five most expensive hips of the four-day auction. Even with only a debut win on his record, Maymun is the most successful foal by earnings produced by Handwoven, a 15-year-old mare by Indian Charlie who was winless in one start at Belmont Park in 2013.
