HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Masqueparade caught pacesetter Classic Causeway on the wire to win the $200,000 Temperence Hill by a head at 19-1 on Friday at Oaklawn Park. It was another 4 3/4 lengths back to Speed Bias in third. The Temperence Hill was a 1 1/2-mile race for 4-year-olds and up. Masqueparade ($40.60) settled off the pace in fifth as the comebacking Classic Causeway set fractions of 24.40 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.29 for the half-mile, 1:13.62 for six furlongs and 1:38.95 for a mile. Masqueparade moved closer to the leader on the final turn and closed with good energy in the stretch to catch the leader and win in 2:33.05 over a fast track. Subscribe now.  Masqueparade, who won the Grade 3 Ohio Derby in 2021, races for John Holleman. He earned $102,000 in the Temperence Hill and improved his career record to five wins from 18 starts with earnings of $786,381. Masqueparade, who is by Upstart, was racing at 1 1/2 miles for the first time on Friday. Racing resumes Saturday with a 13-race card topped by the Grade 1, $1.5 million Arkansas Derby.
