Tampa’s leading jockey, Samuel Marin, who surpassed the 100-win mark at the meet when he rode five winners on Friday’s card, is serving a three-day careless riding suspension. Marin, whose 103 wins lead Samy Camacho’s 88 with 11 days remaining in the meet, began his suspension Sunday and will not be riding Wednesday or Friday. He is eligible to return on Saturday. Marin was sanctioned by the stewards for careless riding for allowing his mount, Max Swagger, to come over coming out of the turf chute in a March 26 race. Though there was neither a stewards’ inquiry nor jockey’s objection in the race, video of the race showed that jockey Jose Ferrer steadied Hasn’t Had Enough sharply as a result of Max Swagger coming over. Hasn’t Had Enough ultimately finished last. Meanwhile, Camacho rode three winners on Sunday, two days after returning from his own three-day suspension. Camacho has won the last four Tampa riding titles. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
