As poorly as Lotsandlotsofcandy ran debuting in April at Keeneland, she was equally brilliant winning second time out June 8 at Churchill Downs. And if the 3-year-old filly’s second start speaks to who she really is, she’ll win again Friday in the featured eighth race at Ellis Park.Lotsandlotsofcandy faces 11 foes in a seven-furlong, nonwinners-of-two allowance race, and the 94 Beyer Speed Figure her maiden win produced dwarfs the race’s other top numbers. Paul McGee, who trains Lotsandlotsofcandy for her breeder, Samantha Siegel’s Jay Em Ess Stable, liked the filly going into her debut and quickly found an excuse for her dismal showing.“She was sick as a dog the next day. I’m sure that was what was going on. She got sick on race day,” McGee said. “Brian Hernandez had been breezing her for me, and he told me something was up with her. As evidenced by her second race, the first one was a throwout.”At Churchill, Lotsandlotsofcandy went straight to the lead and drew away to a seven-length win over six furlongs. McGee believes the filly, who eats heartily and has a strong constitution, eventually will route, and he likes the progression to seven furlongs Friday.“She won that last race like she had been breezing,” he said. “Anytime I breeze her, my instructions are to go as slow as you can – which is too fast. But she does it easy, does it the right way.”Two starts in, the filly possesses lots and lots of potential.
