Thirty-five stakes worth $2,015,000 will be run during the upcoming 91-day Emerald Downs meeting in Auburn, Wash., which runs from April 17 through Sept. 27. The 74th running of the Grade 3, $300,000 Longacres Mile on Aug. 16 highlights the stakes schedule. The only graded stakes in the Northwest, it annually attracts many of the West Coast's top milers. It will be a Win and You're In race for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile for the second straight year. Locally based Wasserman won the Mile last year. The Longacres Mile card will also include the $100,000 Emerald Distaff at 1 1/8 miles. The day before, 3-year-old fillies will run 1 1/8 miles in the $75,000 Washington Oaks. The Captain Condo Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-olds, has been renamed the Dennis Dodge Stakes in honor of the longtime Daily Racing Form correspondent who died last September. The Washington Cup, a series of seven $50,000 stakes for Washington-breds, will be held on Sept. 13. Three of the seven stakes - the six-furlong Chinook Pass, the 1 1/16-mile Belle Roberts for fillies and mares, and the 1 1/16-mile Muckleshoot Tribal Classic - will also be open to runners bred in British Columbia. The $75,000 Emerald Downs Derby will be run Sept. 7, and the $75,000 Gottstein Futurity for 2-year-olds on Sept. 26.
