Youth will be served Tuesday at Lone Star Park. The Dallas-area track will feature a pair of $100,000 divisions of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity on what is the penultimate card of the meet. There are two additional stakes on the program and the four races are worth a total of $300,000. The undefeated stakes winner Island Sun faces new shooters Hulen and Bobby Brinkley in the colts and geldings division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity. The 5 1/2-furlong race drew nine. “It’s very competitive,” said trainer Bret Calhoun, who will saddle Bobby Brinkley. Bobby Brinkley enters off a 10 1/2-length maiden special weight win July 20 at Lone Star. He was making the second start of his career. In his debut, Bobby Brinkley was second as the favorite in another local maiden special weight June 2. “I thought he was a little better than he showed,” Calhoun said of the debut.  “He came back and ran second time out like we expected. I think he’s continued to progress a little bit.” Bobby Brinkley is a son of Shanghai Bobby who races for his breeder, Doug Scharbauer. Richard Eramia has the mount from post 5 on Bobby Brinkley, who could set the pace or track the rail-drawn Island Sun, who is coming off a 2 3/4-length win in the $75,000 Staunch Avenger division of the Texas Stallion Stakes on July 22 at Lone Star. Island Sun is going for the third win of his career. Stewart Elliott has been aboard for all of his races to date, and again has the mount for Will Farish and trainer Steve Asmussen. Hulen invades from Kentucky, where he was fourth in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor in his last start June 27 at Churchill Downs. Before that, he won his debut at the track, in a maiden special weight over 5 1/2 furlongs June 12. Hulen will be first Lasix on Tuesday. Asmussen trains the son of Tapiture for Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt. Ramon Vazquez has the mount from post 7. Asmussen and Calhoun will square off again in the fillies division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity. Asmussen has Great Affection, who is 2 for 2 and coming off a win in the $75,000 Pan Zareta division of the Texas Stallion Stakes. Keith Asmussen has the mount on the Farish homebred from post 6. Kandy Ginger, also trained by Asmussen, is moving into the filly ranks after defeating male rivals in her career debut June 3 at Lone Star. She won a maiden special weight by 6 3/4 lengths and the Beyer Speed Figure of 68 that she earned is the best career number in either division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity. Elliott has the mount from post 7 for the partnership of Erv Woolsey and Keith I. Asmussen. Calhoun trainee Bebop Baby comes off a maiden special weight win July 22 at Lone Star. “She’s progressed also,” said Calhoun. Eramia has the mount from post 8. Redatory will be going for his seventh career stakes win in the $50,000 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame, which is a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Texas. His rivals in the field of 11 include Bubba Bling, a 3-year-old half-brother to Redatory making both his two-turn and turf debut. Asmussen owns and trains Bubba Bling, while Allen Dupuy trains Redatory for James Wessel. Redatory has won two stakes in his last three starts. He gets a rematch Tuesday with Sunlit Song, who edged him by a neck last out when the pair ran 1-2 in the $75,000 Assault on July 26 at Lone Star. Among new shooters, the stakes winner Gold Pilot moves back to Texas-bred company after a third-place finish to Little Menace in the $75,000 Grand Prairie Derby on June 25 at Lone Star. The Hall of Fame will mark the turf debut for Gold Pilot. Calhoun believes the horse will take to the grass. Gold Pilot’s dam, Formal Flyer, won on turf and his sire, My Golden Song, has produced a number of turf winners. Vazquez has the mount from post 5. Lane Luzzi will be on Redatory from post 7 and Lindey Wade has the mount on Sunlit Song from post 4. The Hall of Fame Stakes and the Fiesta Mile, which is a turf race for fillies and mares bred in Texas, both were moved this year to Lone Star from Retama Park. The shift was made due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Retama is solely putting on a meet for Quarter Horses in 2020. The Fiesta lineup of 10 includes Corluna and Herbs Love, both turf stakes winners this meet at Lone Star.
