Woodbine has made it official. The date for this year’s 166th running of the $1 million King’s Plate is Saturday, Aug. 16. Tickets for the opening leg of the Canadian Triple Crown go on sale March 6 on Ticketmaster and at Kingsplate.com. General admission starts at $35, which includes grandstand and apron access, along with entry to the Hats and Horseshoes party that features live music and photo ops. Ranelle Larocque of the Queen Bee Millinery will once again share her hat and fascinator creations and race day style advice this year as the official milliner of the Plate. Steeped in royal history, the Plate has been named in honor of the reigning British monarch since its inception in 1860. The filly Caitlinhergrtness won last year’s Plate, which was postponed six days until Aug. 23 after a torrential rainstorm forced the cancellation of the last two-thirds of the card. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing!
