ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Kevin Attard certainly has a talented group of 2-year-olds under his care this year. The future Hall of Famer cross-entered Rosa, Tripolina, and Bolt Enoree in the $125,000 Glorious Song Stakes for fillies and the $125,000 Display Stakes on Sunday’s Woodbine card. Both are seven-furlong Tapeta sprints. Rosa is unbeaten on Tapeta. After landing her July 8 opener, she raced wide throughout when fourth in the Aug. 20 Catch a Glimpse Stakes on the grass. She became a stakes winner most recently in the 6 1/2-furlong Presque Isle Debutante while earning a 77 Beyer Speed Figure. “We put blinkers on her for the last race,” Attard recalled. “She ran down the speed late and got there in time. I thought it was a good performance. She showed a lot of poise when she broke her maiden first time out and continued to get better. Even her race in the Catch a Glimpse wasn’t bad. She’s been a nice, handy filly.” :: Bet with the Best! Get FREE All-Access PPs and Weekly Cashback when you wager on DRF Bets. Tripolina has been idle since notching her Aug. 13 debut in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special on Tapeta by 4 3/4 lengths with a 72 Beyer. Runner-up Hockey came right back to score. “She’s a filly with a lot of talent,” Attard said. “We worked her on the turf to get her [ready for] the grass, but she got sick and we had to back off on her a little bit. She’s worked really well in the interim, and I think she has a bright future ahead of her.” Bolt Enoree defeated the current leading 2-year-old on the grounds, My Boy Prince, when winning her debut in June. She subsequently finished fourth in the My Dear Stakes, fifth in the Catch a Glimpse, and is coming off a troubled ninth in the Grade 1 Natalma. “She was behind some traffic and some horses were bumping each other,” Attard said, regarding the Natalma. “Down the stretch, a horse veered out and caused a chain reaction. She came from last and I was surprised to see her there after being on the lead in the Catch a Glimpse with a hot pace. I’m gonna draw a line through the Natalma. She’s worked really well. I don’t think we’ve seen her potential yet. Hopefully, she puts it all together and gets a good trip.” Trainer Mark Casse entered Witwatersrand in the Glorious Song and King of the Track and Magic Slips in the Display. Magic Slips is cross-entered in Saturday’s Cup and Saucer Stakes. King of the Track won his Aug. 13 debut comfortably on the Tapeta before finishing a well-beaten seventh in the Grade 1 Summer on turf. Witwatersrand put away the other speed in her Sept. 1 debut before prevailing by three-quarters of a length in the 6 1/2-furlong maiden special. She never left her barn when selling for $230,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October digital sale on Tuesday. Presque Isle-based Gotts Got It is the lone shipper in the Display. She’s Fire and Zo Lee are the two U.S. runners entered in the Glorious Song. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
