Get Her Number, a Grade 1 winner in 2020 who was fourth in the Arkansas Derby on April 10, will pass on the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs next Saturday. Trainer Peter Miller said late Saturday morning that he was not entirely satisfied with the colt’s five-furlong workout in 1:02.20 at the San Luis Rey Downs training center in California earlier in the day. “He worked good, but not great,” Miller said. “My gut tells me we should pass. My gut says don’t do it.” Owned by Gary Barber, Get Her Number won the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita last September, but is winless in two starts this year. Get Her Number was a troubled seventh in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Oaklawn Park on March 13 and was beaten three lengths by Super Stock in the Arkansas Derby at 1 1/8 miles. Miller said two races at Belmont Park are possible for Get Her Number this spring – the Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on May 9 or the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes at 1 1/2 miles on June 5. With Get Her Number out of the Kentucky Derby lineup, a position is available for Keepmeinmind, a colt trained by Robertino Diodoro. The winner of the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs last November, Keepmeinmind is winless in two starts this year – a sixth in the Rebel Stakes and a fifth, beaten 16 lengths, in the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland on April 10. Last November at Keeneland, Keepmeinmind was third behind Essential Quality in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Essential Quality won the Blue Grass Stakes. :: Get Kentucky Derby Betting Strategies for exclusive wager recommendations, contender profiles, pedigree analysis, and more
