Sierra Leone, the recent winner of the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds, has been made the 5-1 favorite for the fifth offering of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which will open Friday, according to odds distributed by Churchill Downs, the wager’s administrator. The fifth edition of the Future Wager for the 2024 Kentucky Derby is the first in which the “all other 3-year-olds” entry is not expected to be the favorite. The Kentucky Derby is scheduled this year for May 4. Sierra Leone, who is being pointed to the April 6 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland for his final Derby prep, is the 6-1 favorite on Daily Racing Form’s Derby Watch. With 55 points already earned, he has more than enough to make the Derby field. Timberlake, winner of the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn in his last start, is the 8-1 second-choice on the morning line, followed by Fountain of Youth winner Dornoch and 2023 2-year-old champion Fierceness, both at 12-1. The “all others” entry is listed at 15-1. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2024: Derby Watch, point standings, prep schedule, news, and more There are no races scheduled for this weekend in which Kentucky Derby qualifying points can be earned.
