Kasserine Pass became a stakes winner Friday night, when she held off a surging Wheres Mom for a 1 1/2-length win  in the $50,000 Evangeline Downs Princess. It was another 4 3/4 lengths back in third to Schiff’s Corner. The Princess, for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs, was the penultimate stakes of the Evangeline Downs meet, which ends Thursday. The feature Saturday night is the $50,000 Prince.  Kasserine Pass ($6.20) tracked the pace set by favorite Joe G’s Payback, who took the field through an opening quarter in 22.28 seconds. Kassserine Pass moved to the fore through a half-mile in 45.99 and separated herself from her rivals in the stretch. Wheres Mom closed fast, but Kasserine Pass held on in 1:12.07 ove a fast track. Roberto Morales was aboard Kasserine Pass for trainer Bret Calhoun. Kasserine Pass is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Trappe Shot who races for her breeder, Brian Cleveland. She has now won 2 of 3 starts and earned $45,430.
