In the eighth race, Zayas rides leading contender Shankar for Joseph in the first-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up bred in Florida. The 1 1/16-mile turf race has a purse of $48,000. Sol Hope returns to the Gulfstream turf after racing at Colonial Downs and running second in back-to-back turf sprints in July and August. She exits a second-level allowance in which she was beaten just three-quarters of a length, and the Beyer Speed Figure of 84 that she earned is the best last-race number in the field Sunday. Sol Hope was stakes-placed over the Gulfstream turf in March. C2 Racing Stable owns the daughter of Soldat, who will break from post 3. Oh Darlin is back racing with fillies and mares after running third last out in the Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint. Prior to the out, she defeated fillies and mares in an allowance on Tapeta. Oh Darlin is looking for her first win on turf Sunday. Fulminate, who is a four-time winner over the local turf course, was fifth last out in a $25,000 starter allowance that has become a key race. The runner-up came back to win at the same level at Gulfstream with a Beyer of 84, and the fourth-place finisher, Founder’s Day, won for a $10,000 tag with a Beyer of 63. Shankar must overcome the widest post in the eighth race, when he breaks from gate 9. He was second in a first-level allowance against open company in his last start Aug. 30. For this trip he will add a set of blinkers, which is a high-percentage equipment move for Joseph, according to Daily Racing Form statistics. Shankar has natural speed that could help him secure position into the first turn. He is making a rare start on turf, as he’s started just twice on the local turf course. Reminder looks like a promising sort for trainer Jose D’Angelo. The 3-year-old is a half-brother to Mom’s On Strike, a multiple Grade 3 winner of nearly $600,000. Reminder was favored at this level last time and finished fifth when the race was moved from turf to Tapeta. In his two starts leading up to the race – both on turf – he was second by a neck, in the Pulpit Stakes and a first-level allowance for Florida-breds. Joe Bravo has the mount Sunday. Honesto is a synthetic-track specialist looking to transfer that good form to turf. He’s a half-brother to Lovely Luvy, a multiple stakes winner of more than $300,000. Trainer Mark Casse has two capable runners in the field in Catch a Tiger and Souper Attentive. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
