Jolly Samurai ran his record to 3 for 3 when he was up for a half-length win over favorite Dominant Spirit in the $75,000 Clever Trevor on Friday night at Remington Park. It was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third to Medicine Dog. The Clever Trevor, for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs, was the final local stepping-stone to the $300,000 Springboard Mile, a Kentucky Derby points race that will be run on Dec. 13 at Remington. Join DRF Bets. He settled off the pace in the Clever Trevor, as Texas Creed took the field through an opening quarter in 23.47 and a half-mile in 47.18. Jolly Samurai, who had one horse beat early, advanced on the turn and continued his momentum into the stretch. He went on to cover the distance on a track rated fast in 1:25.22. “That guy showed up in big fashion once again,” winning trainer Danny Pish said of Jolly Samurai.
