The Grade 1, $500,000 Joe Hirsch Stakes, which had been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday, will now be run Oct. 7 at Aqueduct, the New York Racing Association announced Saturday afternoon. The 1 1/2-mile turf race will be open to original nominees and will be re-drawn on Wednesday. The Hirsch was part of an 11-race Saturday card that was postponed to Sunday due to heavy rains that created significant flooding and hazardous conditions in the New York City metropolitan area. The rain caused Friday’s Aqueduct card to be canceled. By postponing the Hirsch on Sunday, it will have an impact on the wagering menu for the card. The Hirsch, which was scheduled as race 6, would have been the first leg of the pick-6. There will be no pick-6 offered on Sunday’s card. Other multi-race wagers that were to have begun with race 6, including a daily double and pick-3, are also canceled. :: Get Belmont at the Big A Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. The daily double, pick-3 and middle pick-4 that would have started in race 5 and would have included the Hirsch are also canceled. Further, the three other turf races scheduled for the card - races 1, 9 and 10 - will be run on the main track. First post for Sunday’s card will remain at 12:05 p.m. The card includes the Grade 2 Woodward, Grade 2 Vosburgh and Grade 2 Gallant Bloom. As previously reported, the 10-race program originally scheduled for Sunday, which was to include the Grade 2, $200,000 Pilgrim and Grade 2, $200,000 Miss Grillo - qualifying races for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf - has been moved to Wednesday, traditionally a dark day. Two stakes that were part of Friday’s card that was canceled due to the rain have been rescheduled. The $125,000 Ashley T. Cole Stakes will now be run on Friday while the Grade 3, $150,000 Noble Damsel Stakes will now be run on Oct. 8. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
