Jockeys Keith and Erik Asmussen, sons of Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, were injured Saturday in races at Churchill Downs and Lone Star Park. Keith Asmussen was riding Singsational in the first race Saturday at Churchill when the horse clipped heels and went down on the backstretch of a dirt race. Keith Asmussen was taken to the hospital with a possible fractured femur and a hip injury, according to Churchill Downs media. Keith Asmussen shared an update about his injuries on his X account about 8:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, writing: "Singsational and I clipped heels and fell this afternoon at CD. I fractured my left femur, 3 ribs, and have right lower lung contusions + hemopneumothorax. Surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning, thank you to everyone that has reached out with love and well wishes!"  Singsational appeared to have escaped serious injury. Erik Asmussen was injured in the first race at Lone Star when his mount, Good Heart, broke down after crossing the finish. According to a story in The Paulick Report, Erik Asmussen was able to move his arms and legs, though he might have injured his shoulder, and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Asmussen’s mount, Good Heart, was euthanized, the Paulick Report reported.
