OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer David Jacobson used to win races with regularity on the New York Racing Association circuit until he left for the greener pastures of Kentucky and Oaklawn Park a few years ago.  Though he wasn’t here personally Saturday, Jacobson’s white silks with black diamonds and a red hoop were back in the Aqueduct winner’s circle as Durante outlasted a stubborn pacesetter in Acoustic Ave to win the Grade 3, $175,000 Runhappy Stakes by a neck. It was 1 1/4 lengths back to Full Moon Madness.  Radio Red finished fourth followed by the 4-5 favorite One Nine Hundred and Silver Slugger, a speed horse who lunged at the break and ended up last.  “It feels good win a race at Aqueduct,” Jacobson, who was the leading trainer in wins on the NYRA circuit in 2013-14, said by phone from Kentucky.  :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! He finished last of five in the 2024 Runhappy.  Durante was coming off a second-place finish in an allowance race at Keeneland where he sped off under Tyler Gaffalione. Saturday, Ricardo Santana Jr., who twice rode Durante in 2025 at Oaklawn including an allowance win, was able to get him to sit off the front-running Acoustic Ave who ran a quarter in 22.50 seconds and a half-mile in 45.54.  Durante was passed on the outside by One Nine Hundred, who, under Flavien Prat, could not sustain his bid through the lane. Meanwhile, Acoustic Ave, under Jose Lezcano, kept on going, but Durante overtook him late, prevailing for his 11th career win from his 48th start.  Durante covered the six furlongs in 1:10.41 (90 Beyer Speed Figure) and returned $16.50 to win.  “I rode him before and he relaxed,” said Santana, who won his third race through the first six races run Saturday. “When I rode him at Oaklawn, he broke a step slow, I was lucky to get outside the speed that day and he fought. Today I love my [outside] post, the only different thing today was a blinker and today he fought again.”  Meanwhile, One Nine Hundred did not have much fight after making the lead turning for home, confirming trainer Tom Morley’s believe that the colt does not handle a wet surface.  “I thought the way he moved turning for home was fine, but he stopped very quickly after that,” Flavien Prat, who rode One Nine Hundred said.  While Jacobson said he has more horses to run in New York over the next few weeks, he plans to run Durante next in the Grade 3, $275,000  Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 30.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
