There are no need for last names when it comes to the jockey and trainer at the top of the earnings lists in 2022.  Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. and trainer Chad Brown led their respective lists in North American earnings, showing once again why those in the Thoroughbred world are on a first-name basis with them. Join today.  Ortiz also led all riders with 325 wins. Vicente Del-Cid, who rode most of the season as an apprentice, was second with 277 wins, and Luis Saez was third with 272. Ortiz set records with 80 stakes wins and 50 graded stakes wins in 2022. Ortiz won the Eclipse Award for leading rider in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Four-time Eclipse Award winner Chad Brown topped all trainers with earnings of $31,057,362. He was followed by Todd Pletcher ($30,482,937), Steve Asmussen ($28,579,134), and two-time defending Eclipse winner Brad Cox ($23,851,590). Brown won the Eclipse Award for leading trainer in 2016-2019. Asmussen won 382 races last year, the most by a trainer. Karl Broberg was second with 372 and Jamie Ness was third with 326. Godolphin won more money than any other owner last year, $16,343,067.
