ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Inglorious dodged a loose horse en route to a decisive victory Saturday at Woodbine Racetrack in the $151,600 Ontario Lassie Stakes for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies. Inglorious ($4.40) stamped herself as a serious prospect for next year’s Woodbine Oaks by winning the 1 1/16-mile route by 5 3/4 lengths. She also won her only other outing, which came in the six-furlong Fanfreluche Stakes Oct. 24. Lisvernane pressed Yankee Candy through fast fractions, while Inglorious rated kindly along the inside in fourth. Chantal Sutherland angled Inglorious wide at the quarter pole, and she overtook the leaders with an eighth left before closing inside the drifting Molinaro Social, who had lost her rider on the first turn. Baganara rallied for second at 15-1, and Sense of Pride held off second choice Grand Style for third in the nine-horse field. Inglorious completed the distance in 1:46.28, and collected $90,000 for Donver Stable and trainer Josie Carroll. “We’ve worked this filly a lot in behind horses, trying to get her to relax,” said Carroll. “She’s been very simple for us, because everything you ask of her, she just does it. She has a wonderful demeanor. We’re very fortunate.”
