ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The promising Humber River makes his second start in Friday’s co-featured Ontario-sired allowance for 2-year-olds at Woodbine and should be favored in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for nonwinners of two. Trained by Robert Tiller, Humber River dueled for the lead with stablemate Red Weaver when they both debuted Nov. 24. With Daisuke Fukumoto aboard, Humber River prevailed over Red Weaver in the six-furlong maiden event and got a 73 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest in Friday’s field. “He won without Lasix, a clerical error on our part, so it was quite a promising race,” Tiller said. “I think he’s a nice horse. I loved his Beyer. I don’t know if it was a great field, but I really like the horse who was second. They’ve worked together all along. They both look like nice horses who are going to win races.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. A son of last year’s leading Canadian juvenile sire Frac Daddy, Tiller plucked Humber River out of the 2023 Canadian Premier yearling sale for $43,000 for owner Rolph Davis. “He’s a big, strong, good-looking horse,” Tiller said. “He has a great way of going, with good legs, touch wood.” Golden Test, Heard a Ghost, and Your Valentino are all competing for the $40,000 claiming option. Golden Test was minor player in his first three outings before trainer Denyse McClachrie claimed him from an exciting off-the-pace maiden score for $25,000 in September. He subsequently ran fourth in a one-mile allowance on the inner turf before getting fried in a speed duel at this level on the main track. When dropping to $25,000 most recently in another Tapeta sprint, Golden Test reverted to a closing style and overcame a slow start to finish second behind the favored McGill. Ryan Munger retains the mount on the son of Goldencents, the sire of Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan. Heard a Ghost struggled after graduating at first asking in a slow $25,000 maiden claimer before a good run behind Golden Test on Nov. 23, when he took the long way around from near the rear of the field for third. My Boy Bruce ran well in his first three races, including a front-running fourth two back in the restricted Frost King Stakes. He went three wide on the turn en route to ending up fifth in his latest venture at this level. Little Red Domi had worked slowly prior to his Nov. 23 opener against $25,000 maidens, in which he sat 12 lengths off the pace on the turn before closing furiously to win going away with a 54 Beyer. ◗ Friday’s other 2-year-old Ontario-sired allowance/$40,000 nonwinners-of-two sprint drew a six-horse field of fillies. Trainer Dale Desruisseaux sends out Enchanted Forest and Onejabtoomany in the 6 1/2-furlong tilt. Enchanted Forest should be favored off a nose loss in a shorter sprint at the same level Nov. 2. She has worked twice in the interim and will be ridden again by Eswan Flores. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
