Honor D Lady made a rare appearance on dirt for the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks on Sunday and overtook leader Ancient Peace in the stretch for a 2 1/2-length victory. Ancient Peace was a clear second, finishing 4 1/4 lengths ahead of third-place finisher Magic Bubbles. The Remington Park Oaks was one of eight stakes on Oklahoma Derby Day. Honor D Lady ($17.40) stalked the pace set by Ancient Peace, racing in the clear in third as the leader was pressured by Merlazza. Conner said trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. told him prior to the race to keep the filly in the clear to keep as much dirt as possible out of her face as she had not raced on the main track too often. Honor D Lady debuted on dirt, but in more recent starts had been racing on the turf and Tapeta. She won her first stakes on the all-weather surface at Gulfstream in May, in the Honey Ryder. There were no fractional times posted during the running of the Remington Park Oaks, which was hand-timed, according to an announcement by Remington. The stewards said there was a timer malfunction. Merlazza was pulled up and the stewards said she returned to be unsaddled. She was the favorite over Ancient Peace, who, due to a communications delay, was announced as blinkers off for the first time one race prior to the Remington Park Oaks. Honor D Lady is a daughter of Honor Code who races for Final Furlong Farm and Madaket Stables. Albizu takes Vance Albizu closed from last to win the $100,000 David M. Vance by a half-length over Burninhunkoflove. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third to American Xperiment. The six-furlong race was for 3-year-olds and up. Albizu ($7.20) could see them all in the early stages of the Vance, trailing as a four-way pace battle ensued up front. It Makes Sense was the leader through an opening quarter in 21.66 seconds, before being overtaken by Empire of Gold through a half-mile in 44.81. Albizu advanced as Empire of Gold seemed home free before being caught by Burninhunkoflove, who was in turn caught late by Albizu. “Today they ran away from us at the start,” winning rider Cristian Torres said in an interview broadcast by Remington. “I knew they would eventually come back.” Albizu covered the distance in 1:11.33. Robertino Diodoro trains Albizu for Jerry Caroom. The horse by Include won the first stakes race of his career Sunday. Medalla Match in Ricks Medalla Match ($4.40) became a stakes winner when she led throughout to capture the $75,000 Ricks Memorial for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on the grass. Stewart Elliott was aboard to complete a sweep of the two turf offerings on the card, having accounted for the $75,000 Remington Green with Sunlit Song. Medalla Match set fractions of 24.58 for the opening quarter, 49.76 for the half-mile and 1:14.52 for six furlongs, then was dogged through the stretch by Annie’s Song. Medalla Match had more late, and won by a half-length over that one while covering the distance in 1:45.09. It was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third to Wholelottamo.
