Hong Kong Harry, the winner of four graded stakes on turf in California in 2022 and 2023, is nearing a return to training at Santa Anita, trainer Phil D’Amato said earlier this week. Hong Kong Harry, 7, has not raced since he finished second by a half-length to stablemate Easter in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar last November. D’Amato said Hong Kong Harry did not require surgery during his absence. “He just needed time off,” D’Amato said. Hong Kong Harry has won 6 of 11 starts since arriving from Ireland in the winter of 2021-2022. An Irish-bred gelding, Hong Kong Harry races for the partnership of Scott Anastasi, Jimmy Ukegawa, and Tony Valazza. Last October, Hong Kong Harry won the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile at Santa Anita. He was not supplemented to the Breeders’ Cup program because of a steep $200,000 nomination fee, D’Amato said at the time. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
