Holy Bull, the 1994 Horse of the Year who is now a pensioner at Darley, never sired a runner who came close to his own brilliance, although he was represented by 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo. His true mark has been as a broodmare sire, with 722 winners, including 53 stakes winners and 61 more stakes-placed runners, produced by his daughters. The latest of those standouts came at Royal Ascot, where the 2-year-old Caravaggio turned in an impressive performance to win the Group 2 Coventry Stakes. Caravaggio is out of the stakes-winning Holy Bull mare Mekko Hotke, who had already produced Grade 2 winner My Jen. She delivered a full sibling to Caravaggio from the late Scat Daddy's final crop this year. Holy Bull's record as a broodmare sire is led by champion female sprinter Judy the Beauty, who won the 2014 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint after finishing second to champion Groupie Doll in the 2013 edition. In all, Judy the Beauty won or placed in seven Grade 1 events. Holy Bull's daughters have also produced multiple Grade 2 winner and prominent young sire Munnings and Grade 2 winner Cairo Prince. He is also the broodmare sire of Grade 1-placed Nonna Mia, whose first foal is Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Derby starter Outwork. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales
