The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority has appointed 16 veterinarians to its new Veterinary Advisory Committee, which will begin meeting early in 2025 to provide feedback to the authority’s executives and other standing committees. The 16 appointees include veterinarians in both private and regulatory roles. They were appointed to terms ranging from 18 months to three years in order “to ensure a dynamic, evolving group and maximize opportunities for future participation,” HISA said in a release. HISA announced the creation of the committee earlier this year. Veterinary groups have been among the varied racing constituencies to have expressed concern over the limited role provided to industry insiders as advisors on HISA’s rules for drug testing and medication use. HISA said that the committee will advise on the “implementation and evolution of HISA’s rules and protocols related to veterinary care, medication, racetrack safety, equine research, and other relevant issues.” The appointees are: Dr. Kathleen Anderson, Dr. Ada Caruthers, Dr. Ashley Daniel, Dr. Horace O. Ferguson, Dr. Peter Hannigan, Dr. Andrew Hirschy, Dr. Kathleen Kivi, Dr. Michael Manno, Dr. Justin McCormick, Dr. Martha Misheff, Dr. Amy Narotsky, Dr. Nolton Pattio, Dr. Kathy Picciano, Dr. Lindsey Porubovich, Dr. Lisa Santa-Emma, and Dr. Nick Smith. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
