LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Star jockey Florent Geroux and his longtime agent Doug Bredar will soon part ways after more than 12 years during which Geroux amassed nearly $140 million in purse earnings. Following the Nov. 4-5 Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland, Geroux will be represented by New York-based agent John Panagot, who will continue to book mounts for Manny Franco on their home circuit. Geroux’s career began a steady ascent after Bredar left a career as a longtime racing official to work for him in 2010. The 36-year-old French native was the regular rider of such superstars as Gun Runner, the 2017 Horse of the Year and Monomoy Girl, the 2018 Kentucky Oaks winner and two-time divisional champion, as well as Mandaloun, declared the 2021 Kentucky Derby winner via disqualification. “Doug did so much for me and my family,” said Geroux, a married father of two. “I’ve been thinking the last few weeks about my next move. I will always be grateful to Doug.” :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic. It’s been an amazing run that surpassed all of our original expectations.” Bredar, 60, said his future options are “undetermined. I’m open to any and all opportunities.” Geroux began his career as a teenager in France, notching his first win in 2004, before he started riding in America in 2007, mostly struggling in Chicago and Florida while trying to find his way. It was only when he and Bredar teamed together in Kentucky and Louisiana that his career took off. He achieved seasonal highs in wins (217) in 2016 and mount earnings ($21.4 million) in 2018, all the while perennially ranking among the North American leaders. In 2022, through Tuesday, Geroux has ridden 84 winners and his mounts have earned more than $12.4 million, the latter number being seventh highest on the continent. For his career, he has 1,954 wins and $139,381,379 in mount earnings. Panagot, 37, has worked as a jockey agent since 2018. He said he mostly will remain in New York while “working the phones and Zoom and all that” while also “occasionally popping in and out of wherever Florent is riding.” Geroux said he intends to ride Kentucky in the spring and fall, Fair Grounds in the winter, and Saratoga in the summer. This past summer, he and Bredar tried their hand at Del Mar, where the jockey had seven wins from 92 starters. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
