Trainer Kenny McPeek enjoyed coast-to-coast stakes success over the weekend, with Generous Tipper becoming a stakes winner Sunday in the $150,000 Discovery at the Belmont meet at Aqueduct a day after Thorpedo Anna took the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Saturday at Del Mar.   The Discovery was for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles and shared a card with two other stakes. Generous Tipper ($20.60) stalked the pace along the rail on Sunday as Tuscan Sky joined Batten Down on the lead and the two dueled through fractions of 23.18 seconds for the opening quarter, 46.51 for the half-mile and 1:11.05 for six furlongs. Generous Tipper was angled out into the stretch and went on to cover the distance in 1:50.05. Kendrick Carmouche was aboard Generous Tipper, who was coming off a first-level allowance win at Keeneland. “It was a perfect trip,” Carmouche told the New York Racing Association publicity department. “I had the speed in front of me. I just had to sit and wait for them to come back to me. You know that Kenny had this horse ready to rock and roll. I'm just glad to be a part of it." Generous Tipper won by three-quarters of a length over Tuscan Sky. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third to Copper Tax. John Velazquez was aboard Tuscan Sky and said he did not expect to be dueling on the lead Sunday. “It was not what I wanted to do, but I ended up being there, so I had to maintain my position,” Velazquez told NYRA. “He put in a good fight. “I expected [Batten Down] would be on the lead, but I thought he'd probably clear me going into the first turn. Then he never did, so nothing I can do." Batten Down, who was the 4-5 favorite, finished fourth Sunday. Generous Tipper is a son of Street Sense who races for Walking L Thoroughbreds. He has now won 3 of 7 starts for earnings of $264,359. Turnback the Alarm Brazilian import Evidencias came rolling through the stretch for a half-length win over pacesetter Movie Moxy in the $150,000 Turnback the Alarm. It was another 3 1/2 lengths back in third to Signal From Noise.  The race, which was for fillies and mares, was run over 1 1/8 miles.  Evidencias ($6.60) was a Group 1 winner at the distance in October 2022. She trailed the field early in the Turnback the Alarm, as Movie Moxy put up fractions of 24.09 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.70 seconds for the half-mile and 1:13.42 for six furlongs. Evidencias advanced on the final turn, was angled out in the stretch, and rolled home to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:51.03. Joel Rosario was aboard for trainer Christophe Clement. “Christophe told me she would stay the distance,” Rosario told NYRA.  “She kept getting better and better at the end and gave me a very good race. She’s a big horse and when I made my move, I stayed in the clear and kept riding from there and hoping I’d get it, and she did.” Evidencias is a daughter of Drosselmeyer who races for James Wigan and Denford Stud. She came into the Turnback the Alarm off a win in the Obeah at Delaware Park. Pumpkin Pie Nic’s Style became a stakes winner in the $150,000 Pumpkin Pie, when she darted home by 3 1/4 lengths over Dazzling Move. It was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third to Zadorsky. The Pumpkin Pie was a seven-furlong race for fillies and mares. Nic’s Style ($3) tracked pacesetter St. Benedicts Prep, prompting the leader through fractions of 22.61 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.75 for the half-mile. Nic’s Style took over in the stretch, and dug in through the stretch to cover the distance in 1:22.51. Junior Alvarado was aboard for trainer Bill Mott. "She broke sharp,” Alvarado told NYRA. “She broke very good. I thought it was between me and [Jose Lezcano on St. Benedicts Prep] to be the speed of the race. He kept sending from the inside, so I sat off, but right there. My filly was really relaxed and comfortable the whole way around. When we hit the quarter-pole, I asked her for a run and she quickly responded and turning for home, did it on her own after that. She knew what to do." Nic’s Style came into the race off a runner-up finish to Ways and Means in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom on Sept. 29 at Aqueduct. Prior to that, Nic’s Style had won the first three starts of her career by a combined margin of 22 lengths. She is now 4 for 5 for earnings of $268,400. Nic’s Style is a daughter of Uncaptured who races for Stephen Rousseau. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
