Under a perfectly timed ride by Mario Gutierrez, Ganbei got up in the last couple of jumps to upset Burj Dubai by a neck in the $52,961 S.W. Randall Plate at Hastings on Sunday. Ganbei ($17.50) trailed the field early while Burj Dubai was cutting out honest fractions of 23.60 seconds, 46.74, and 1:11.13 for six furlongs. Ganbei started to pick up horses at the quarter-pole and rallied in the stretch while going four wide. Lowther Street made a late but nonthreatening move to finish third. Trained by Mel Snow, Ganbei posted an excellent final time of 1:43.45 for 1 1/16 miles.
