HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The much anticipated return of the speedy Gabaldon will finally take place Saturday at Gulfstream Park in the $115,000 Texas Glitter Stakes. The five-furlong dash restricted to 3-year-olds lured a field of seven, including Gabaldon’s Jose D’Angelo-trained stablemate Incanto. Gabaldon has not started since finishing second of 27 juveniles in the Windsor Castle Stakes last June at Royal Ascot. Gabaldon had earned an automatic berth into the prestigious event by virtue of his gate-to-wire victory when making his career debut five weeks earlier in the Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes. In the five-furlong Windsor Castle, he was defeated just a length by Ain’t Nobody after contesting the pace from the outset. He was headed by the winner in the final 100 yards. “I’m so excited to finally have him back in the entries and ready to run again on Saturday,” D’Angelo said. “He had a little bone bruising this summer at Saratoga, so we gave him enough time to recuperate. He was still growing and started his career way too early. Those kind of horses always need a little break in between.” Gabaldon will launch his 3-year-old campaign with just five works on his résumé and only one beyond four furlongs. All of the works have been over the main track at Palm Meadows. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day. “He’s training well and is fit enough to go five furlongs,” D’Angelo offered. “Right now, we have nothing picked out beyond this race. Our plan is always the Breeders’ Cup with horses like him, although that road is a long ways away right now.” Gabaldon is well drawn on the extreme outside with regular rider Emisael Jaramillo aboard. Unlike Gabaldon, who has made only two starts, Incanto is the most experienced member of the Texas Glitter lineup having made eight starts but just two since being transferred to D’Angelo earlier this winter. Incanto has posted a win and a second since switching barns, with each of those races coming over the Tapeta track. “I haven’t had an opportunity to run him yet on grass, but he’s improving, worked good over the turf course at Palm Meadows, and I think he will run pretty well too on Saturday,” D’Angelo said. The D’Angelo pair will take on a field that includes the undefeated Turbulent Force, stakes winner Most Handsome, Moon Factor, I’m Otter Here, and No Evidence. The versatile Turbulent Force has opened his career with two consecutive victories for trainer George Weaver. He captured his debut on turf Dec. 6 before kicking off his 3-year-old campaign with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length entry-level allowance win over the Tapeta strip five weeks later. Turbulent Force, a son of Violence, has worked five times since his most recent start, posting a bullet half-mile in 48.40 seconds over the Palm Beach Downs turf course to complete the series last Saturday. Most Handsome, who will try turf for the first time in the Texas Glitter, also won his first two starts, including the five-furlong Hallandale Beach Stakes over Tapeta on Sept. 28. He has dropped his next two outings, most recently finishing third under optional-claiming and allowance conditions just two weeks ago. Enterdadragon may try Florida Derby D’Angelo said Wednesday he is seriously considering running another of his top 3-year-olds, Enterdadragon, a week from Saturday in the $1 million Florida Derby. Enterdadragon, runner-up in the Colonel Liam Stakes on turf March 1, has made just one of his nine career starts on dirt, finishing a non-threatening seventh in the Aventura Stakes here last September. :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports available now. Enterdadragon was entered and scratched a week ago from a 1 1/8-mile allowance race over the Tapeta track. He also is nominated to the Cutler Bay Stakes, to be run at 7 1/2 furlongs over the turf on the March 29 Florida Derby undercard. “He’s improved since I took the blinkers off three starts ago, he ran very good in his last start, and he can get the distance, which is why we are thinking about running him in the Florida Derby,” D’Angelo explained. “We are waiting for his final workout this Saturday on the main track before making that decision. We know he’s a much better horse on grass, but we want to see how he handles the dirt.” D’Angelo said Dylan Davis will ride Enterdadragon if he runs in the Cutler Bay, but he currently has no jockey lined up should he opt to go in the Florida Derby. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
