ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Frosted Over has seen better days, but the classy Canadian champion could end a drought when making his way down to an enticing level in Sunday’s Woodbine headliner, a nine-furlong allowance with a $32,000 claiming option. Trained by Mark Casse, Frosted Over was the champion male 3-year-old in 2021, during which he captured the Grade 3 Ontario Derby and ran second to his favored stablemate Sir Winston in the Grade 3 Valedictory. Frosted Over has gone winless in 12 starts since taking the Grade 3 Dominion Day in summer 2022. He went to the bench after a poor showing Jan. 5 at Turfway Park and rallied for fourth when coming off the sidelines here Sept. 14. In another conditioned allowance with a $50,000 claiming option most recently, he stalked a fast pace from a three-wide position before tiring in the last sixteenth, finishing a much improved fourth. Sahin Civaci will ride the handsome Frosted Over again for owner Gary Barber. Fraser Aebly inherits the mount from Civaci on Legal Catch, who has maintained solid form since the summer. Legal Catch prevailed when protected at this level Aug. 25 and then doubled up against nonwinners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance and $40,000 claimers on the inner turf a month later. He rallied for second behind a peaking Meyer when tagged at this class level most recently Oct. 27. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. One More Brew has been a shrewd claim by trainer Robert Tiller, who haltered him for $15,000 on behalf of owner Frank DiGiulio Jr. in September. The 4-year-old subsequently beat $25,000 claimers with a career-high 81 Beyer Speed Figure and was second last out at this level behind a razor-sharp J P Hellish. Runaway Charlie was scratched from Saturday’s Valedictory, a 1 1/2-mile marathon that Wentru won as part of a dead heat in 2022. Both are longshots in the 12-horse field. The speedy Runaway Charlie has declined since earning his diploma in a June 23 maiden special. The full brother to 2022 Canadian Horse of the Year Moira got cooked in a speed duel when switching from turf to Tapeta on Oct. 6, the last time he saw action while facing easier nonwinners-of-two allowance and $50,000 3-year-old competition. Wentru was sold after running the race of his life for trainer Marty Drexler in the 2022 Valedictory and has struggled ever since. The 6-year-old was reunited with Drexler last summer and was freshened after a ninth-place finish Sept. 14. He has worked regularly on the Tapeta of late and perhaps the cooler fall weather will lead to a turnaround. Sailor’s Passion has been on the up-and-up since trainer Debra Rombis reclaimed him for a bargain $10,000 in August. The son of Silent Name received a career-best 82 Beyer last out when beating $25,000 claimers decisively under apprentice Austin Adams. Rounding out the eighth-race lineup are Grande Soiree, Exude, Royal Spirit, Grandson, Onenightstardards, and Tiz Romantic. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
