SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Master of The Seas, a three-time Grade 1 winner in the United States, including last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile, will scratch from Saturday’s Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga due to a foot bruise. Chris Connett, assistant to trainer Charlie Appleby, announced the news Wednesday. Depending how quickly the horse recovers, he could train up to the Woodbine Mile on Sept. 14, Connett said. “It’s on the table,” Connett said. “He’ll have a few easy days and then hopefully we’ll be back to normal with him.” Though Appleby had hinted last week he might not run Master of The Seas in the Fourstardave, Connett said the plan was indeed to run after he was one of seven entered. :: Get Saratoga Clocker Reports straight from the morning workouts at the track. Godolphin and Appleby will still be represented in the $500,000 Fourstardave by Ottoman Fleet, a winner of two consecutive races including the Grade 2 Wise Dan at Churchill Downs on June 29. “He came out of that race really well,” Connett said. “I don’t think he was initially planned to run here but Charlie thought why not?” It is expected that Flavien Prat, who was named on Master of The Seas will pick up the mount on Ottoman Fleet. Joel Rosario had been named to ride Ottoman Fleet. Ottoman Fleet now becomes the starting highweight at 123 pounds. During the winter, he finished behind his Godolphin stablemate Measured Time in two stakes in Dubai and was eighth behind another Godolphin runner, Naval Power, in the Singspiel Stakes. Ottoman Fleet has run three times in North America this year, getting beat a neck by Master Piece in the Fort Marcy at Aqueduct before winning the Arlington Stakes and Wise Dan in a four-week span at Churchill. Ottoman Fleet will likely vie for favoritism in the Fourstardave with Carl Spackler, who has won four of his last five starts including the Grade 3 Kelso on July 13. Also entered in the Fourstardave were Strong Quality, Major Dude, Money Supply, and More Than Looks. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
