ARCADIA, Calif. – The fastest horse in California and another who has emerged as a leader in the handicap division posted key workouts in identical times Monday at Santa Anita. Grade 1 winner Flightline and Grade 2 winner Stilleto Boy worked separately, five furlongs in 59.40, following the 6:30 a.m. renovation break. Flightline worked alone preparing for the Grade 1 Metropolitan Mile on June 11 at Belmont Park. Stilleto Boy worked in company for the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup on May 30 at Santa Anita. Flightline, 118-Beyer winner of the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes on Dec. 26, will be making his first start of the year in the Met Mile, having recovered from a hock issue that interrupted his winter campaign following his Malibu romp. Flightline is ready to roll, according to trainer John Sadler. :: Win big at Santa Anita: Get DRF Past Performances, Picks, Clocker Reports and Betting Strategies.  “He’s ready to run next week,” Sadler said watching Flightline gallop out after the work. “That was beautiful, really nice.” Flightline broke off at the five-furlong pole, Sadler timed his splits in 12.20, 23.40, 35.40, 47.60 and 59.60 and caught Flightline galloping out in 1:12.40, 1:25 and 1:39.80. “With him, this is easy,” Sadler said pointing at the Santa Anita stretch. “I’m looking at the ‘out,’ not being asked.” Flightline will try to become the first horse in 17 years to win the Met Mile in his first start of the season. Ghostzapper won in 2005 returning from a seven-month layoff. Flightline will work twice more prior to shipping for the Met Mile. Plans call for Flavien Prat to work Flightline on May 30, followed by one final work. Potential rivals for Flightline in the Met Mile include Grade 1 winner Speaker’s Corner. Stilleto Boy scored a career-best victory April 30 in the Californian Stakes and will be part of a small field May 30 in the Gold Cup. Ed Moger trains Stilleto Boy, whose Gold Cup rivals are likely to include Royal Ship and East Coast shipper Dynamic One. Santa Anita Handicap winner Express Train will not run. Stilleto Boy worked in company Monday with graded stakes-placed Tarantino. Both horses were timed in 59.40 seconds.
