Flat Hanby ran a significant race in the $100,000 Canterbury Derby on Saturday night, splashing home by six lengths in the Northern Stars Festival feature at Canterbury Park for a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 92. Bourbon Aficianado finished second, while it was another three lengths back in third to 4-5 favorite Navy Seal. The Canterbury Derby was part of a card of three $50,000 stakes and two $40,000 overnight handicaps. The races were all scheduled for turf, but ended up being run on a wet, sealed track. The surface was rated sloppy for the Curtis Sampson Oaks, then upgraded to muddy for the other races making up the Festival. Flat Hanby ($21.80) relished the wet going, racing with the pace in the Canterbury Derby before pulling clear. He covered the one mile distance in 1:36.97. Flat Hanby was winning his third straight race, following a maiden special weight and conditioned allowance in two sprints for Oklahoma-breds at Will Rogers Downs. The start Saturday was the first at two turns for Flat Hanby, a son of Flat Out who races for his breeder, JT Stables. On a roll Thunders Rocknroll ($3.20) won her second straight stakes of the young meet when she led throughout to capture the $50,000 Lady Canterbury by 2 3/4 lengths over Big Bad Diva. The winner, who was stretching out around two turns off a win in the Lady Slipper Stakes, covered the mile in 1:38.41. The Lady Canterbury was scratched down to three starters. Jon Arnett trains Thunders Rocknroll, who is a daughter of Maclean’s Music, for her breeder, Robert Lindgren. Alonso Quinonez was aboard for the win, one of two victories he had on the card. He guided Thealligatorhunter to a length win over Twentyone N Change in the $40,000 Dark Star. Arrest Me Red, the class of the field with earnings nearing $1 million, was scratched from the race. Thealligatorhunter ($3.20) covered five furlongs in 57.48 seconds. The son of Overanalyze races for his breeders, Peter Mattson and Tim Padilla, and is trained by Padilla. Main track star Unified Dreams ($4.80) was entered for the main track only in the $50,000 Brooks Fields and made the most of the opportunity to run, as he rallied for a 2 1/2-length win over Tonka Warrior. The winner covered the mile in 1:37.97. Fausto Da Silva was aboard Unified Dreams, who is a son of Unified, for Patrice Sutherland and trainer Gary Scherer. *Tour Queen ($18.20) battled through the stretch with Hattie Bloom and proved a length best in the $40,000 Curtis Sampson Oaks. Tour Queen covered the mile on a sloppy, sealed track in 1:39.66. The Curtis Sampson was the lone stakes run in the slop, as the track was then upgraded to muddy. Luis Fuentes was aboard the daughter of Tourist for trainer Ty Garrett. She races for Jason Hall Stables and Stephen Baker. Handle on the eight-race program from all sources was $1,032,409, according to figures from Canterbury. There were 15 scratches on the card from 65 entrants, the track reported.
