Fierceness, the winner of the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the leading candidate for 2-year-old champion colt, has been made the 15-1 individual betting favorite for the second Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool, which will open on Thursday at noon. Fierceness is one of 38 individual betting interests listed in the pool. The overwhelming favorite is expected to be an entry of “all other colts and geldings” that are not listed individually, tabbed at 4-5 on the morning line. Over the weekend, a number of the colts listed in the wager will run in races at Churchill Downs in Louisville for its annual Stars for Tomorrow II program. The card features 12 races, all for juveniles, including the $400,000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes for colts and the $400,000 Golden Rod Stakes for fillies. The first future wager was conducted in the days prior to the Breeders’ Cup, which had five races for juveniles on its Nov. 4 card. In that pool, the “all other” entry for colts and geldings was the 4-5 favorite. Fierceness closed at nearly 30-1. The second pool features 12 horses that were not individually listed in the first pool. Churchill will also host a future pool for the sire of the Kentucky Derby winner from Thursday to Sunday. In that pool, the “all other sires” entry is the morning-line favorite at 6-1, with Into Mischief the second choice at 8-1. The minimum wager in both pools is $2, with win and exacta betting.
