Two also-rans in the Nov. 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile have been made the morning-line co-favorites among the individual entries for the second Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool, according to a list distributed by Churchill Downs, the administrator of the pool, on Monday night. Chancer McPatrick and East Avenue, sixth and ninth in the Juvenile behind gate-to-wire winner Citizen Bull, were posted at 10-1 on the morning line for the pool, which opens Thursday and closes Sunday night. Citizen Bull was one of three horses among the 38 individual entries listed at 20-1. The heavy favorite is the catch-call entry of “all other colts and gelding foaled in 2022,” at 4-5. The field entry is typically the heavy favorite through the first three Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools. :: KENTUCKY DERBY 2025: Point standings, prep schedule, news, and more In the first pool, which closed just prior to the running of the Juvenile, Chancer McPatrick was the 9-1 favorite among individual entries, followed by East Avenue (11-1) and Jonathan’s Way (19-1). The field closed as the 4-5 favorite. This weekend’s future wager coincides with the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday, a points race for the Derby. Jonathan’s Way is being pointed to the race, with trainer Philip Bauer telling Daily Racing Form that the race will be used “to get a better gauge on what we’re going to be doing going forward as a 3-year-old.” Churchill also will offer the first and only Kentucky Derby sire pool this weekend, with 39 individual entries and a field entry, the co-favorite at 12-1 with leading sire Into Mischief. The minimum wager in both pools is $2, with win and exacta wagering being offered. There are no refunds. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
