ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Favored Fashionably Fab needed the length of the stretch to get by 25-1 shot Fortyfiveseventy when a gutsy winner of Saturday’s $100,000 La Prevoyante Stakes at Woodbine. Fortyfiveseventy vied with Tito’s Calling through dawdling fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route while Fashionably Fab was boxed in among rivals in a stalking position under David Moran. Fashionably Fab got a split at the three-sixteenths pole and then gradually wore down Fortyfiveseventy to prevail by a nose, in a time of 1:45.05. War Painted rallied outside for third ahead of Talk to Ya Later. Hurricane Clair and Tito’s Calling completed the order of finish in the race for Ontario-sired fillies and mares. “On paper, [Hurricane Clair] was the only fear we had,” Moran said. “I was hoping that she would leave the gate faster than me and get in front of me. It didn’t happen. But when you’re on the best horse in the race, you ride it like the best horse in the race. “She burst through [a hole] and I thought she was going to win easy, and she kind of waited on the other one. She’s a smart horse. She was always going to win, but she just never put her away.” Fashionably Fab ($2.70) earned $60,000 for owner-breeder Terra Racing Stable. The daughter of Silent Name, who also won two graded stakes at the Woodbine meet, is the leading contender for the Sovereign Award as this year’s Canadian champion older female on the main track. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
